Agnes is survived by her daughter, Catherin Jewell and husband David; her granddaughter, Courtney Merkel and husband Edward; and her great-grandchildren, Ryan and Mckenzie Merkel. Agnes was predeceased by the love of her life and her husband of more than 50 years, Wilburn Godwin.
Agnes was a native of North Carolina and later moved to Virginia with her husband. In the early 1960s, she and her sister Eloise founded Kempsville Florist. Realizing that she wanted to spend more time with her family, Agnes sold her share of the business and continued to work there part time until her retirement. She was also a long-standing member of Kempsville Baptist Church.
A small graveside memorial will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday in Rosewood Cemetery conducted by the Rev. Kelly Burris.
