October 18, 1941 - May 3, 2023

Mrs. Iris Yvonne Malcolm Abernathy, 81, of Davidson NC, passed away Wednesday, May 3rd, 2023, at home.

Iris was a native of Huntersville, NC and resided in Davidson NC, for the last 43 years. Iris thoroughly loved her husband, David of 64 years, marrying one another as young adults at just 16 (Iris) and 19 (David). A beautiful love story that produced 4 children, 3 daughters and 1 son. She had many passions in life, those included gardening, cooking, raising orphaned animals, and going fishing with daughter Bonnie. She was most well known for her banana pudding (always homemade), fried chicken, homemade biscuits, and spaghetti. Penny, her beloved grand-dog, has been a close side kick and protector most recently. Christmas has always been a favorite holiday, she decorated outside yearly. She would light up the entire yard which could be seen from the roadway. Iris worked at Huntersville Oaks Nursing Home in the Dietary department for 25 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Hazel & Edwin Malcolm, sister Joann Yost, brothers Hazel Rowe Malcolm and Ed Malcolm, and daughters Cindy Abernathy and Bonnie Hawks and son in law John Paul Hawks.

Mrs. Abernathy is survived by her husband of 64 years, William David Abernathy Sr. of the home, their children Rebecca (Becky) Abernathy of Davidson NC, and William David (Billy) Abernathy Jr. (Susan) of Lincolnton, NC. She leaves behind and is survived by 8 grandchildren, Denise Burgess (Jason), Michael Hawks, Shannon Burgess (Mike), Yvonne Drye (Chad), Eric Hawks, April Clark (Brian), William David Abernathy III, and Austin Hable. Of those grandchildren there are 12 great grandchildren, Ashton Wiggins, Ryder Hawks, Abel, Logan, and Michael Paul Hawks Jr, Aydan Burgess, Kirk Garcia, Kelsey, Nathaniel, Owen and Mackenzie Drye, and Noah Herron.
