Sheryl "Sherry" Abney,
44, Okeechobee
Mrs. Abney, a native of Dade City who moved to the area in 1954, died Friday.
She held several positions with the Okeechobee County School Board, was a mail carrier and was employed part time with the Okeechobee County Health Department, Indian River Community College and Douglas Health Spa.
Mrs. Abney also founded the Sherry Abney Tea for the American Cancer Society's Okeechobee Unit. The tea is to educate young women about breast cancer.
Survivors include her husband, John W. Abney Sr. of Okeechobee ; son and daughter, Shane and Shanda Altman of Okeechobee ; stepsons, John "Wes" Abney Jr. and Kyle Abney of Okeechobee ; brother, Don Deloney of Okeechobee ; two sisters including Susan Rucks of Okeechobee ; and a granddaughter.
Arrangements are by Bass Funeral Home in Okeechobee . Visitation is 2-6 p.m. today at the funeral home. The funeral is 2:30 p.m. Monday at First Baptist Church, with burial to follow at Evergreen Cemetery .
