Arthur F. Adams, 47, of 177 Coyle Street, died Saturday at a local hospital where he had undergone an operation. Mr. Adams, a crockery packer, was taken ill Sunday night and was taken to the hospital Tuesday. Orphaned at an early age, Mr. Adams passed a number of years at the Masonic Home for Orphans at Utica, N. Y. As a youth he went to Richmond to live with an uncle, and later worked in the shoe shop. He married Miss Hazel Castner, and they continued to live in Richmond until 17 years ago, when they came to Portland. Mr. Adams was a member of the Masonic Lodge at Richmond. A year ago he fell from a tree while picking fruit and broke several vertebrae. He made a recovery that was considered almost miraculous, and this summer had been quite active. Surviving are his wife, two sons, Wallace Adams of Providence, R. I., and Earl, a sophomore at University of Maine, and two daughters, Ellen and Madeline, both pupils at Deering High School. Funeral services will be held at 2 p. m. Monday at 749 Congress Street. Interment will be in Brooklawn Memorial Park.
