Judoka. Olympic Athlete. MMA Fighter. In his early competitive days he won a bronze medal in the 1990 Frankfurt competition, followed by winning 2 silver medals and 2 bronzes. He rose to prominence in 1992's Barcelona Summer Olympic Games winning the gold medal in judo in the men's heavyweight division. When his judoka days were over he switched over to MMA, winning his first fight in 1995 for the RINGS Fighting Network Promotion's first Budokan Hall show event & then was unsuccessful in his 2 other fights in 1996 and in 2003. In 2018 he was awarded the Presidential Award of Excellence by the president of Georgia for his accomplishments in judoka.
