E. Wallace Dickerson, Sr., 85, of Spartanburg, went to be with the Lord at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, February 11, 2008, at Park Ridge Hospital in Fletcher, NC, after a short illness.

Born January 22, 1923, in Meridian, MS, he was the son of the late W. J. and Aliene (Langston) Dickerson. He was the husband of Gellette (Burgess) Dickerson and was first married to the late Ruby (Fowler) Dickerson.

A graduate of Spartanburg High School, Wofford College, and the University of South Carolina School of Law, he was a former Special Agent of the FBI, a Judge in the Civil and Criminal Courts in Spartanburg, a former Associate Judge of the Spartanburg County Probate Court, a member of the Spartanburg Bar Association, as well as a practicing Attorney.

A member of the First Baptist Church of Spartanburg and a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II, he was instrumental in the organization of the Spartanburg County Rescue Squads and was the leader of Spartanburg County Rescue 4.

Surviving in addition to his wife are three sons, Ed Dickerson and his wife Becky of Spartanburg, Donnie Dickerson and his wife Sonya of Gaffney, and Mike Burgess and his wife Charlotte of Easley; a daughter, Barbara Wood-Allen of Inman; a dear granddaughter, Dori Wood of Inman; a grandson, Travis Burgess and his wife Caroline of Easley; a great-granddaughter, McKenzie Burgess of Easley; a sister, Elizabeth Harmon of Clemmons, NC; and a loyal feline companion, Peanut.

He was predeceased by five sisters and three brothers.

Visitation was 6:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 13, 2008, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel.

Cryptside services were held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 15, 2008, at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens Heritage Chapel Mausoleum conducted by the Rev. Dr. Donald J. Wilton and the Rev. Sal Barone.

The family requested that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 901 South Pine Street, Spartanburg, SC 29302; or to The Encouraging Word, PO Box 2110, Spartanburg, SC 29304.
