Ed Andrews passed away peacefully early Friday morning, Feb. 15, 2019 surrounded by his family.
The youngest of four, Ed was born in Shanghai, China while his parents were performing medical missionary work for the Adventist Church. Ed spent most of his youth in Silver Springs, Md.
Before choosing a career, Ed decided to see more of the world. It was while working in Honolulu that he met the love of his life, Monnie Smith. He loved Hawaii and surfing—and serenading her with his ukulele.
They married in Seattle in 1950 and moved to San Francisco to attend college at UC Berkeley. They had three children; Mark and Donna were born in San Francisco and Richard was born in Portland. They settled their family in Beaverton, Ore.
Ed worked at Allis Chalmers and then for Oregon Auto in sales and later as an insurance adjuster. He and Monnie continued to explore the world visiting Tahiti, Europe, South America, Mexico and many other exotic locations. They celebrated 65 years together in October 2015.
Ed enjoyed being active and loved walking every day, skiing, bike riding, dancing and windsurfing. He also loved drinking coffee while solving crossword puzzles and the Jumble.
Always interested in things, he was creative, enjoyed reading and science and loved to tinker and invent. It was fun to see what he would come up with. In retirement, Ed became quite a gardener and created an oasis in the backyard. His roses were amazing.
Most of all, Ed loved his family and was very proud of his children and his beloved grandchildren.
