Monnie Andrews passed away peacefully Saturday afternoon, May 21, 2016, surrounded by her family. Born Aug. 22, 1924, on the family farm in Purvis, Miss., the second youngest in a large family, Monnie decided she wanted to see the world and she did. Leaving home at an early age, she travelled and worked her way across the country; living in New York, Chicago, Colorado, San Francisco, Los Angeles and Hawaii. It was in Honolulu that Monnie met the love of her life, William Edward Andrews. They married in Seattle and moved to Berkeley, Calif., to attend college and start a family. They had three children: Mark and Donna were born in San Francisco and Richard was born in Portland. They settled their family in Beaverton. As a young woman, Monnie loved photography and worked for Kodak. She also did some modeling in Hawaii. During her career, she was a property manager for Shilo Inns, an investment counselor for Resource Financial Planning, ran the Tigard Welcome Wagon and worked in the office of Frahler Electric. She and Ed continued to explore the world visiting Tahiti, Europe, South America, Mexico, the Caribbean and many other exotic locations. They celebrated their 65th anniversary Oct. 9, 2015. Monnie especially loved dancing, skiing, playing golf, tennis and riding her bike. She enjoyed gardening and bridge. Monnie loved her family and being active, especially with her beloved grandsons, Nevin, Ryan and Austin. Al- ways social and loving people, Monnie had the uncanny knack of running into people she knew almost everywhere she went!
