Lenus C. Moore a highly respected citizen of St. Samuel's, Juniata Township, a brief notice of whose death appeared in last Friday News, died Wednesday, December 28, 1927, of a supposed heart attack, life being extinct when found about noon, by Russell Smith and father Forrest Smith on whose farm Mr. Moore had gone for wood. He left his home at 9:00 a.m. feeling well and had been unusually well the last couple of weeks, though Mr. Moore had been ailing somewhat for the past couple of years. I le was a son of James and Mary (Willis) Moore, born in Perdix, Penn township and was aged 80 years, 11 months, 17 days. He was a farmer all his life, excepting nine years of early manhood, when he was employed by the Pennsylvania Railroad Co. in Iowa, where his right arm was crippled, and 35 years ago his left hand was crippled by the effects of a broken arm, so that he worked with great difficulty, but did all kinds of work. The following brothers and sisters preceded him in death; Jane and William. He was the last of his family. Two sons also preceded their father to the grave, namely; Elwood and LeRue, and he is survived by his wife who was formerly Miss Annie M. Robinson, to whom he was married June 3, 1875, at her home in Allen's Cove, also the following children; Charles Moore of Altoona; Emily, Mrs. Mo;tpm Cassatt. Harrisburg; Cora, Mrs. Darius Fox, of Penbrook; Sara, Mrs. Charles Reapsome, RD 1; Annie, Mrs. David Leonard, Newport Star Route; and Harriet, widow of the late Theodore Troup, at home.
He is also survived by 16 grandchildren. Mr. Moore was a home man, always thinking of the welfare of his family, and tried to do the best of his knowledge to live in peace with his neighbors, being held in high esteem and served several term as treasurer of Tuscarora township school board, and also served on the school board in Wheatfield township, where he formally lived. He was a member of the St. Samuel's Lutheran Church, and when in health was a faithful attendant at Sunday school, holding office of treasurer at the time of his sudden passing on the great beyond. Funeral services were held at St. Samuel's Lutheran Church, preceded by a prayer at his late home Saturday, December 31,1927, a 10 a.m. by his pastor, Rev. L. Stoy Spangler. Walter Mitchell, John Mitchell, Daniel Smith, Bruce Leinaweaver, James Hultzapple and James Gross acted as pallbearers. Interment was in Newport Cemetery.
