Jean A. McMahan, age 74, of Dodgeville, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, February 27, 2008 at Upland Hills Health. The former Jean Penhallegon was born on September 7, 1933 in Dodgeville to Lyle and Ruth (James) Penhallegon. She married Jerome "Jerry" McMahan on September 15, 1951. The couple lived in Dodgeville until moving to Jean's home farm in 1967. Following Jerry's death on September 24, 1993, Jean moved back to Dodgeville in 1994. Jean was Librarian at the Dodgeville Public Library from 1971 until retiring in 1990. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church. She enjoyed reading and reviewing new books for the library. Her greatest joy was time spent with her family.

She was also preceded in death by her father, Lyle Penhallegon on March 3, 1997; her mother, Ruth Penhallegon on October 26, 2001 and infant grandsons, David and Christopher Symons on March 19, 1971.

Jean is survived by a daughter, Marcia (William) Symons of Sharpsburg, GA; two sons, Michael (Mary Ann) McMahan of Mineral Point and Patrick McMahan of Stockton, CA; four grandchildren, Shayna and Alissa Symons; B.J. McMahan and his fiancée Bobbi Bedward and Danny McMahan two great granddaughters, Caitlin Symons and Aubrie McMahan; three brothers-in-law, Francis (Rosie) McMahan of Madison; Melvin Baumgartner of Verona and Gordon Mosley of Darlington as well as nieces, nephews and many friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, March 3, 2008 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Dodgeville. Fr. Paul Ugo Arinze will officiate with burial St. Joseph's Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Sunday, March 2.2008 at the Lulloff-Peterson-Houck Funeral Home, Dodgeville where a parish rosary will be held at 7:30 P.M. Friends may also call at the church on Monday after 10:00 A.M.
