LAKE LAWN METAIRIE FUNERAL HOME OBITUARY – 2018
Susan Mary DiLeo Caire, 68, found restful peace on March 16, 2018 at her home in Metairie after a brave seven year fight against ovarian cancer. Born in New Orleans on December 12, 1949 to the late Charles & Ramona O'Bryan, Susan was adopted at birth and raised by the departed Dr. Joseph & Isabel Nelson DiLeo with her two brothers Joseph L DiLeo II and David DiLeo. Susan is a graduate of St. Pius X Catholic School, St. Joseph Academy High School, and LSUNO (UNO), where she met her caring and loving husband of 46 years, Stephen, and began lifelong friendships with her ZTA sorority sisters. She pursued her passion for mathematics through two careers - as a math teacher at Dominican High School and Professor at Delgado Community College, as well as at Shell Oil in New Orleans for 20 years. She enjoyed spending time and celebrating life with her children and grandchildren every chance she had. Sue loved to travel and enjoyed the many family vacations to Disney World, Pigeon Forge, and the numerous historical places where she found some of her best antiques and crafts, and she always appreciated a good math joke. She was blessed to be reunited with her birth family later in life including her parents, Charles and Ramona; her brothers, Charles and Larry; and her sisters, Josie and Donna; as well as many of her cousins and their extended family in and around Louisville, KY. Susan is survived by her husband, Stephen; and her children, Kristin, Jeffrey (Amy), Scott (Jessica), Bradley (Amy), Susan (Michael); and grandchildren Hayden, Blake, Parker, Brynn, Hudson, and Nola. Visitation will be held at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home on Tuesday, March 20th from 5-8 p.m. and funeral Mass will take place at St. Ann Church and National Shrine on Wednesday, March 21st at noon. The family is especially grateful to the Notre Dame Hospice, Sister Servants of Mary, Clara's Sitting Service, and countless family and friends for their support and care. Additional condolences may be expressed through donations to the Servants of Mary, Ministers to the Sick Convent in New Orleans or the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition (NOCC).
