Joseph Emanuel Aboussleman of Sylvester, Ga passed away February 3, 2023, surrounded by his loving wife and family.
The Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, February 9, 2023, at the Andersonville National Cemetery.
Joe was born and raised in Georgia. An avid fan of Georgia sports, he loved the Bulldogs, Braves, and Falcons. He graduated from South Cobb High School, after which, he joined the Navy and spent a tour in Vietnam on an aircraft carrier. Joe was the original Maverick, before Maverick was cool! After his discharge from the Navy, Joe worked for Freightliner and Cummins before retiring in 2012.
The social life of Joe Aboussleman was something to be admired. Never one to turn down a good time, Joe was often the life of the party. If you were with Joe, you were NEVER bored! Joe and Minnie joined the local Albany Moose Lodge in 2003, which is where Joe found his true social calling. He served on its Board of Officers from 2003-2021, was President of Chattahoochee Valley 130, elected lodge Governor for multiple terms, and also served as Administrator and Moose Legion chairman. Joe went on to earn his Moose fellowship degree. He was selfless in his dedication to the Moose organization and he was loved by its members.
In his "spare time", Joe loved to build bird houses and cornhole boards. If you're lucky enough to own one of his creations, you know that he was quite the craftsman! He also loved fishing, boating, camping, and just hanging out with friends and family. He was truly a wonderful man that provided a little bit of fun, love, and happiness to everyone he met.
He is survived by his wife Minnie Aboussleman; daughter Kellie Goodwin (spouse Nate) of Vinings, Ga; stepdaughter Mindy Carter (spouse Will), stepson, Shawn Eubanks; grandson Tyler Carter (spouse Ashlei), granddaughter Morgan Carter, great-grandsons Noah & Stetson Carter, all of Sylvester, Ga; brother Jerry Aboussleman (spouse Janet) of Lawrenceville, Ga; sister Patricia Brooks (spouse Barry) of Sumter, SC; as well as a host of aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews. Joe was preceded in death by his parents Alfred & Minnie Aboussleman, sister Sherry Aboussleman, brother Michael Aboussleman, and great-grandson Kolt Carter. Joe would be proud to know that he fought a good fight at Tallahassee Regional Medical Center.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Banks Funeral Home.
