"Wilbur F. Leech, son of Joshua and Sarah Leech, was born in Monroe County, near Toledo, Ohio, on the 23rd day of December, 1852; and died at his home in Oskaloosa, on Wednesday, November 28, 1928, aged 75 years, 11 mos.

At an early age he, together with his mother, father, three brothers and three sisters, removed to Adair county, Missouri to a farm near Kirksville, where Mr. Leech received his education in the Missouri State Normal School. In 1872 he came to Kansas to the home of his sister, Mrs. Agnes A. McLouth, wife of Uncle Amos McLouth, who had preceded him to a homestead on part of which the town of McLouth, Kansas is now located. Since that time Mr. Leech had lived continuously in Kansas and approximately 40 years in Oskaloosa.

On March 16, 1874 he was united in marriage to Mary A. Vandruff, daughter of Joseph and Eliza Vandruff, early residents of Union Town, this County. To this union were born seven children, and he is survived by Mrs. Mary A. Leech, his widow; one daughter, Mrs. Alma A. Mayer; and two sons, Amos H. Leech and Ray E. Leech, all of Oskaloosa; grandchildren, Amos, Jr., Billy, Ruth, and Janette Leech, and Mary Catherine Mayer; also his brother, Wesley Leech of Colorado Springs, Colo., 88 years of age, and the brother-in-law, Amos McLouth of the National Military Home, Leavenworth, who was 90 years of age Nov. 30, 1928.

On March 16, 1924, Mr. and Mrs. Leech held their golden wedding anniversary at the home of their son, Amos in Oskaloosa, at which time many friends gathered to add joy to the occasion.

Mr. Leech had long been active in the civic and religious interests of the community. He served as clerk of the court for four years and probate judge for four years in this county. He was a member of the Modern Woodman of America and a charter member of Lyra Lodge A.F. & A. M., McLouth. He received his early religious training in the home of his parents, both of whom were devout Christians, his father being an ordained minister of the gospel of the Methodist Episcopal faith and president of his conference. Mr. Leech had been an active member of the Methodist Episcopal Church in Oskaloosa for many years, much of the time serving on the official board.

In the passing of Mr. Leech, the community loses one of its most respected and valued citizens, and it may well be said of him, 'I have fought a good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith.'" The Valley Falls Vindicator (Valley Falls, Kansas), December 14, 1928
