Edward F. Bell, a native of Waynesboro Pa., died at his home in Strasburg, Va., Sunday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock, aged 78 years. Death was due to heart trouble, from which Mr. Bell had suffered for some time. He had not been able to give his active attention to his business for several years because of his illness and had transferred the direction of it to his son.
Mr. Bell Was born in Waynesboro, at the corner of Main street and Potomac avenue, the second son of John and Elizabeth (Frey) Bell. He learned the trade of potter with his father, who conducted the largest pottery in this section, but when a young man went to Strasburg and assisted his uncle, Samuel Bell, in the pottery business there. Afterward he engaged in the undertaking and cabinet-making business and was very successful in this.
He was held in high esteem by his fellow citizens and was, several times elected to borough offices. He was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church and of the Masonic fraternity.
He was a frequent visitor to Waynesboro.
His wife died about a year ago. He is survived by one son, Levi Dice Bell, two sisters Mrs. Mary K. Newman and Miss Hettie Bell, Hagerstown, and one brother, Victor C. Bell, this place.
Funeral services and interment will be in Strasburg. Mr. and Mrs. Victor Bell left Monday for Strasburg to attend the funeral.
