SAN ANGELO — David Michael Ryan, 80, of San Angelo, Texas, died at 10:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2006, at his residence. David was born Feb. 2, 1926, in Dubuque, Iowa. He served in World War II and he was a pharmaceutical salesman and county commissioner for Tom Green County. He married Maryalyce Woodrow on July 31, 1948, in Fairfield, Iowa. David was an advocate for the underdog and he believed in fairness and justice. He worked as a political activist throughout his life. He was one of the most familiar faces at the Tom Green County Library. His most compelling trait was his remarkable sense of humor which he demonstrated even through his terminal illness. He was a proud man who loved his home and family. Survivors include his wife, Maryalyce Ryan of San Angelo; two sons, Michael David Ryan of Dallas and Mark A. Ryan and wife Shari of Austin; five daughters, Kathleen Forrest of Austin, Teresa Preston of San Angelo, Patricia Jensen and husband Eric of North Bend, Wash., Barbara Ryan of Plano and Susan Hayes and husband Tim of Austin; and six grandchildren, Angela Forrest, Erica Jensen, Zachary Jensen, Abby Ryan and Andrew Hohertz. David is also survived by two brothers, Roger and Tom Ryan; and four sisters, Virginia Bakewell, Marilyn Zurek, Geraldine Feyen and Margie Shavers. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 23, at Holy Angels Catholic Church with Father Charles Greenwell officiating. The family requests memorials be made to MHMR of San Angelo or VistaCare Hospice.
