Thomas Jefferson Hughes served with the 22nd Iowa Infantry CO.I, he was the husband of Ellen (nee Fry) Hughes, and the father of ten children. Malissa 1862-1938, Thomas Clinton 1863-1950, Theodore 1864-1907, Vinton 1864-1880, Matilda Jane 1869-1840, Viola Chloe 1871-1938, Lenna 1874-1921, Daise 1876-bef 1938, Nellie 1880-1882, Forrest 1884-1952.

People have written to me about the post for this stone and told me it was wrong, I knew it was wrong after it was set, but I felt there wasn't much I could do about it now. I am the person who had this stone ordered and put in. I have Thomas's civil war papers and pension papers which clearing states he was with the Iowa 22 Infantry. I still have the forms I mailed the government which clearing states Iowa, but this is not the first time I've been sent wrong things, it took three tries to get another set of Civil War records for someone else. I received WWI, & Spanish American Files, they don't seem to read thoroughly . Real smart people in Washington as you known. I Live in Ohio and the stone was sent directly to the cemetery so I never saw it till after it was set. I made a trip to Oklahoma to see if any stones were there , no one in the family plot has their grave marked, so now with at least with Thomas's stone we know his family is right beside him. He is our great grandfather.
