Lonny Dean Parsons was born April 2, 1941, in West Des Moines, Iowa. He passed away June 11, 2022, at the age of 81, peacefully at his home in Urbandale. Lonny grew up in Highland Park in Des Moines. He was in business with his brothers for several years doing block and concrete work as Parsons Construction Company. Lonny left the construction business to go to Casey's Corporate Transportation Department where he later retired from. Lonny was very involved in racing, it was his true passion. He was a car owner for sprint cars, late models, and NASCAR. He spent countless hours at Knoxville and traveled all over for the World of Outlaws Sprint Car races. He loved to travel and loved the races. In 1968, Lonny starred in the movie 'Fever Heat' as Chip Van. They used two of his cars and filmed it in Stuart, Iowa. Lonny enjoyed gathering family for the holidays, and loved telling stories to everyone. Celebration of Lonny's Life will be 2PM Thursday, June 16, 2022, at Merle Hay Funeral Home, 4400 Merle Hay Rd in Des Moines, Iowa. Visitation will be 12PM until service time at the funeral home. Burial will follow at the Chapel Hill Gardens Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Knoxville Sprint Car Hall of Fame Museum.
