MULLINS - James Allen "Jim" Ackerman, 85, of Mullins passed away peacefully at his residence on Sunday, September 25, 2022 with his son, Justin by his side. He was born in Colleton County on August 16, 1937, the son of the late Alvah Justin Ackerman and the late Lisher Jaques Ackerman.
Jim proudly served his country as a member of the United States Air Force, where he was assigned the duty of Weapons Control Systems Mechanic. He spent thirty-three years working with Dupont Industries in Florence as an electrical maintenance mechanic. During Jim's employment at Dupont, he along with help in some areas, built Ackerman's Mart, operating it with his wife, Jo Ann, until selling it. Jim was a quiet person, although he did enjoy spending time with family and friends. One of his favorite things to do was sit around the kitchen table drinking sweet tea and visiting with friends and church members.
In addition to his parents, Jim was predeceased by his beloved wife, Jo Ann Davis Ackerman; two brothers, Alvah Ackerman and Lawrence Ackerman; three sisters, Mary Ackerman, Jean Reeves, and Bess Ackerman, and a daughter-in-law, Marie Ackerman.
He is survived by a son, Alvah Justin Ackerman II of Bremerton, Washington; a brother, Sherrill Ackerman (Monta) of Mt. Pleasant; a sister, Thelma Snelgrove of Tennessee; 2 grandchildren; and 1 great-grandchild.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 4, 2022 at Calvary Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery.
