In 2017, she played Rosie in "Girlboss" on Netflix, which was her final role. She was the daughter of the Reverend Robert Fletcher and his wife Estelle née Caldwell, both of whom were deaf, but she and her three siblings all had normal hearing. Gallaudet University bestowed her with an honorary degree in 1982 due to her work with the deaf and hard of hearing.
