His obituary (Brunswick Times-Gazette, Lawrenceville, Va., Dec. 27, 1928, p. 1, col. 6) indicates that he was recovering from tuberculosis at the Blue Ridge Sanitorium in Charlottesville, Va., when he contracted spinal meningitis, which was the direct cause of his death.
