Rachel Edella Minter was the daughter of William and Eliza Lucinda Love Minter. She married James Davis Boyd in November 1853 in Chester County, SC, and moved with him to Mississippi in 1856. The couple had eight children together, although the first-born died in infancy. In addition, Rachel reared the child of James Davis Boyd and his first wife Harriet Fielder Robbins Boyd, who died shortly after the birth of the child.
