Ann "Nancy" Washington's father was Colonel Augustine "Austin" Washington Jr., the third son of Capt. Augustine (c1694-1743) and Jane Butler Washington (1699-1729), who was born January 13, 1719/20 at Popes Creek, Va. He was a planter, justice, and colonel in the Virginia militia. He represented Westmoreland County in the house of burgesses, 1754-58. He inherited Popes Creek plantation consisting of about 3,000 acres from his father in 1743 and lived there at Wakefield. He married in 1743, Anne Aylett (1726-73), daughter of Col. William (-1744) and Anne Ashton Aylett, of Westmoreland County. Their seven children were Lawrence (c1745-ante1758), Augustine (c1747-ante1758), Elizabeth (1749-1814), Ann (1752-77), Jane Augusta (1756-1833), Col. William Augustine (1757-1810) and George Washington (c1760-81).
