Ernest Albert Manis is the son of Lloyd Powell and Nettie Eunice (Slusher) Manis. He was born on4 May 1919, in Warrensburg, Missouri when his father, Lloyd, was 21 and his mother, Nettie, was 18.

He was baptized in 1935 at the age of 16 in Wallins Creek, Harlan County, Kentucky.

He graduated from Wallins Creek High School in Kentucky in May 1936. He then went to Cumberland Collage in Williamsburg, Kentucky and graduated 29 May 1939.

On 23 Jun1941 he enlisted in the army at Fort Thomas in Kentucky. He was discharged from the military on 8 Dec 1945 at Camp Atterbury in Indiana.

He married Ida Salina Godfrey on 25 March 1945, in Indianapolis, Indiana. They adopted a child of Ernie's youngest sister and had one child during their marriage.

He was an Industrial Engineer at Firestone Industrial Products Company (26 years).

Ernie died on 1 December 1984, in Anderson, Indiana, at the age of 65, and was buried in Dayton, Indiana.
