Sarah Jane Wheeler was married on 15 August, 1844 in either Blackford or Whitley Co., Indiana to Daniel Payne. They had six children:

1. Charlotte S. Payne (1847-?, married Melvin PIERCE, three children)

2. James H. Payne (1849-?)

3. David Payne (1853-1929, married Nancy Ann KEELER, three sons)

4. Nelson Payne (1857-1942, never married, is also buried in Coverse Cemetery, allegedly next to his mother.)

5. Daniel L. Eugene Payne (1860-?)

6. Rosetta Isabelle Payne (1862-1942, married Theodore Freeman "Freeman" PENCE, twelve children.)

Daniel Payne is thought to have died before 1867, where upon Sarah married 2. Smith WIXSON 3 April, 1867 in Champaign, Champaign Co.,IL. (This as yet to be proven.)
