"........Joseph was born on the 18th of March 1809, in Jefferson county, and in 1832 was united in marriage with Mary Blackburn, of Westmoreland county, Pennsylvania. Her parents were James and Hannah Blackburn. In 1833 they came to this township, (Londonderry) where their five children were born, viz: James B., Elizabeth, Jewell T., William, and Hannah. Mr. Kirk's second wife was Phoebe, daughter of George and Mary Smith. His third wife was Rebecca Smith, daughter of Daniel and Annie Michener. Mr. Kirk owns two hundred and seventy acres and is a farmer........"
