William Amos Dillard Bryan, Jr., is the patriarch of the family buried at the Bryan Cemetery on SC 905. He was a planter of some prominence in Horry County, having inherited his father's Round Swamp Plantation, which was comprised of over 3,000 acres between Longs and Little River. William Bryan, Sr., served as Senator from All Saints Parish (1823-1825), as well as County Escheator, and Justice of the Peace and Postmaster of Little River. He operated a store and a grist mill in Horry County, both of which are marked in Robert Mills' 1825 Atlas. William, Jr., grew up at Round Swamp and, in his early childhood, at Cherry Grove Plantation (approximately 500 acres, at the location of today's Cherry Grove), another of his father's properties. (The family's third plantation was called Bostick or Bostwick, some 900 acres on Little River.)
