Frederick Albert Powell, 86, of Harrisonburg, died Friday, Jan. 18, 2008, at Oak Lea Nursing Home at Virginia Mennonite Retirement Community.

Mr. Powell was born Jan. 6, 1922, in Chicago Heights, Ill. and was the son of the late Albert Frederick and Mabel Doris French Powell. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Gerald Powell, and a sister, Ester Powell.

He served with the Army Air Corp during World War II. He lived and worked for many years in Mishawaka, Ind. In 1969, he was transferred to Harrisonburg to work in production control with the Dunham-Bush Company where he worked for 25 years. He was a member of the Bridgewater VFW Post.

Surviving family include his wife of 61 years, Lucretia Mae Powell; a daughter, Barbara Ann Quimby and husband, Ralph J. Quimby III of Harrisonburg; two grandchildren, Michael Frederick Quimby and his fiancée, Loretta Ford, both of Harrisonburg and Jenna Rebecca Quimby and fiancé, Jeremy Walter Reid of Port Republic; a great-grandchild, Connor Lee Reid of Port Republic; and a sister, Florence Holmes of Elkhart, Ind.

A service of remembrance will be held at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2008, at the Park Place Dining Room located at VMRC, 1285 Shank Drive, Harrisonburg, VA 22802, with Chaplain John Lehman officiating. There will be a private burial at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Harrisonburg Rescue Squad, Attn: Donations, P.O. Box 1477, Harrisonburg, VA 22803 or to the VMRC Compassion Fund at 1491 Virginia Ave., Harrisonburg VA 22802.
