Former Charlotte Resident Passes Away in Atlanta--Funeral Here.

Mr. Calvin McGinniss Query, for many years a beloved and honored resident of Charlotte, passed away at 10:40 Tuesday night, after an illness which terminated eleven years of partial invalidism. Before taking up his abode in Atlanta Mr. Query had been a citizen and merchant of Charlotte, where, by a former marriage, he reared a family of four children, three of whom survive him.

Mr. Query was 71 years of age, having been born in 1842 in Mecklenburg county, where the Query and McGinniss families were long established, as first settlers and active factors in the formation of the community and State, his great great-grandsire being a signer of the Mecklenburg Declaration of Independence. As a mere lad, Mr. Query enlisted his sympathies and support for the Confederacy, and was in the service of the North Carolina troops. He was a man of strong character and high principles, and won the love and respect of all who knew him.

Mr. Query is survived by a widow by a second marriage, a son, Mr. Charles R. Query of New York, two daughters, Miss Clara E. Query of Baltimore, and Mrs. R. W. Gray of Indian Territory, and seven grandchildren, Mr. Harvey Orr of Atlanta and the children of Mr. Charles Query and those of Mrs. Gray.

The remains arrived in the city last night and the funeral will take place at Elmwood this morning at 10:30, the service being in charge of Rev. Dr. A. A. McGeachy, pastor of the Second Presybterian church, of which the deceased was a member while residing here. Mr. H. F. Cary of Washington, a step-son, accompanied by Mrs. Cary, are here for the funeral.
