From the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal, June 19, 2022:
Lou Dunn Diekemper passed away Friday, June 17th, 2022. Family and friends will celebrate her life on Wednesday, June 22nd at First United Methodist Church in Lubbock, TX. Services will begin at 10 a.m. and there will be a reception prior at 9 a.m. in the church parlor. We invite you to visit www.memorialdesigners.net to view the live-streamed service and sign her virtual guestbook.

Lou lived a full life and loved Lubbock and her family and friends. Her generosity enhanced the lives of many, and her philanthropy covered organizations too numerous to mention. She was involved in volunteer work for many years and instilled the value of service to others to her family.

She was also a life-long learner earning a master's degree and PhD after her children were grown. She enjoyed reading and even wrote a number of books. Her business ventures included the Two by Four and the Odyssey Book Store.

Lou and Ray Diekemper were avid travelers, often going to out-of-the-way locations and spreading West Texas friendliness around the world. It would be hard to find a continent they had not visited!

Lou was preceded in death by her husband, Ray.

She is survived by daughters, Mia (Gerry) Maddoux, Lou Ann (Pieter) Bergstein and Diane Burchard; her grandchildren, Morgan Maddoux, Kara (Vincent) D'Alise, Saskia (Zach) Allen, Petra (Alex) Higby, Jason (Anna) Burchard and Jeremy Burchard; her great-grandchildren, Louis D'Alise, Mia D'Alise, Adelaide Allen, Adriana Higby and Arie Higby; and her brother, Bob Dunn.

The family would like to thank her caregivers Gabey, Sassy, Yvonne, and Mary for their devoted and compassionate care of Miss Lou. They went above and beyond to make sure she was comfortable and happy.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to a favorite charity to continue Lou's legacy of giving.
