Revolutionary War soldier (took the Patriot's Oath in Montgomery Co., MD in 1778), serving as a Sgt., 2nd Co., 29th Battalion, Montgomery Co. Militia, under Capt. Jesse Wilcoxen, Col. John Murdock commanding, 1780. He moved to Georgia circa 1785 with his cousin, Ninian Beall Magruder.

Ninian Offutt Magruder's often-quoted lineage to Alexander Magruder ("The Immigrant") - i.e "Ninian II", "Ninian I", Samuel, Alexander - has been in doubt for many years. Research by Mary Sprigg Poole in the Year Book of the American Clan Gregor Society (published 1954, pp. 17-24) all but confirms that this lineage is incorrect. The alternative theory is that the correct lineage goes through John (Burton? or Brewer?) Magruder, son of "Ninian I" (John, "Ninian I", Samuel, Alexander).

According to an article written by Robert Lee Magruder, Jr. included in Year Book of the American Clan Gregor Society (published 1912), Ninian Offutt Magruder is buried in an unmarked grave in a family graveyard located near Dearing and Grovetown (Georgia), which, circa 1910, was "sadly neglected", such that the grave could not be positively identified. A modern headstone (pictured above) has since been added.

His modern-day headstone is located in a small stand of trees. WARNING!!! This location is on private property. As of 23Aug2015, the property is owned by a hunting club, and as such, it can be EXTREMELY DANGEROUS to visit this grave site.
