Marcia Nell Parr, 42, of Tuscumbia, Alabama, passed away on Sunday, June 12, 2022, in the Cottage of the Shoals Nursing Facility. She was born on August 5, 1979, in Tuscaloosa, to James T. and Lettie Vaughn Parr.

Born with Cerebral Palsy, Marcia never walked nor talked. However, she always moved everyone she met with her sweet, sassy personality.

At family gatherings, Lettie's sweet baby was inevitably the center of attention. She was always surrounded by her family members, listening, and responding in her own special way to whatever we had on our minds. When she agreed with you, she would beam ear to ear with joy.

As the baby of her family, some might think she was spoiled. However, she was anything but that. Marcia was the example of persevering through impossible circumstances and finding joy in life.

For almost 40 years, her mom cared for her daily: feeding her, bathing her, and loving on her. While receiving wonderful care at the Cottage of the Shoals Nursing Facility, she was visited daily by family—especially Lettie and Myra—who could not stand to be away from Marcia's infectious personality. Marcia always did an outstanding job of keeping her family in line.

Marcia is also an ultimate example of achieving more than anyone thought possible. The doctors when she was born said that she would likely only live to be 10 years old and not accomplish much in her life. However, nearly 43 years later, she proved them completely wrong. She attended Tuscaloosa City Schools' Oak Hill School, was one of the first participants of the University of Alabama's RISE program and pulled through multiple near-death experiences throughout her life. Marcia's life is a testament about never giving up, living life fearlessly and fully.

Finally, perhaps Marcia's most recognizable trait was her ability to find joy in the smallest of things. She loved old country music, often crooning with Alan Jackson or George Strait as they sang on the radio. She loved going outside on a stroll with her sister or sitting on the porch with her mom. Her eyes would crinkle just so, and she would just smile her special smile. She loved beaded necklaces and her stuffed big-headed monkey, Monk-Monk. She never went without, but then never wanted more. She was always so content with the little things in life, spreading that joy to those she was around. She is the true definition of inspirational. We cannot express enough how thoroughly she will be missed here on Earth though we are sure that she is walking freely up there in Heaven.

With her passing, she is reunited with her parents and brother, Mark.

Funeral services for Marcia were held on Wednesday, June 15, 2022, at 12:00 noon from the McGraw Memorial Chapel of the Miles Memorial Funeral Home, in Winfield, Alabama, with burial following in the White Springs United Methodist Church Cemetery in Hubbertville. The visitation was held on Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon at the funeral home.
