Former Adak resident Marsha Irene Voigt-Akens, 37, special services director at the U.S. Navy air station in Adak, died Sept. 23 at her residence in South Bend, Ind. A service was held in Gilman, Ill., with arrangements by Redenius Funeral Home. Burial took place in Danforth Cemetery in Danforth, Ill.
Mrs. Voigt-Akens was born Aug. 3, 1953, in Gilman. She married in October 1978 and came to Adak afterward. She was president of the Adak Kiwannis Club and was a Brownie troop leader in Adak. She was also choir director of the Bering Hill Chapel in Adak and held a degree in music therapy from Illinois State University.
Mrs. Voigt-Akens is survived by her husband, Robert of South Bend; her daughters, Celena Akens and Briana Akens of South Bend; her mother, Eunice Seaman of Pinckneyville, Ill.; her sister, Beth Ransom of Arnold, Mo.; and her brother, Craig of Tolono, Ill. Memorial donations may be sent to any local hospice organization or any local cancer society.
