Lester Eugene (Gene) Chambers, age 93, of Iola, Kansas, passed away May 24, 2022, at the Allen County Regional Hospital, Iola, Kansas. Gene was born May 9, 1929, in Carlyle, Kansas, to Frank L. Chambers and Mildred C. (Higginbotham) Chambers.

Gene graduated in 1947 from Iola High School. Gene and Naomi "Ruthie" Carpenter were married July 18, 1954, in California. Ruthie passed away June 18, 1982. Gene and Naomi Louise (Menzie) Hoppes-Chambers were married October 13, 1983, in Chanute, Kansas.

Gene worked as an installer and repairman for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company.

Gene was a craftsman in wood and even built his own home in Carlyle. He enjoyed fishing, camping, and woodworking. Gene liked attending his Navy reunions, traveling all over the United States to attend those reunions, and he hosted a Navy reunion in Branson, Missouri. He was strong in his faith, attending the Carlyle Presbyterian Church his entire life.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Ruthie; two daughters, Stephanie Chambers, Camilla Dobson; and sister, Betty Fitzgerald.

Gene is survived by his wife, Naomi, of the home; children, Pam (Gary) Johnson, E,mporia, Kansas, Claudette (Rick) Bishop, Bedias, Texas, Gary Chambers, Bedias, Texas; LuAnn (Robert) Reece, Manhattan, Kansas; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives and friends.
