Sheryl Lynn Allen, age 67, of Grapeland passed away Monday, May 16th at her home. Sheryl was born November 10, 1954, in Sherman, Texas to parents, Joseph John Lawrence Hajer, Jr. and Cliftine Schroeder Jordan Hajer. She graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in Tyler, TX in 1972 and went on to graduate with her bachelor's degree in Music from Stephen F. Austin State University, with work towards her Master's in Piano Performance. Sheryl was a member of the Phi Mu Alpha Music Sorority, a piano accompanist for numerous choirs including the Robert E. Lee choir, and was the pianist for the Lyons Club in Nacogdoches. Throughout the years she has also served as the accompanist for many UIL solo and ensemble students for local schools: Westwood, Palestine, and Elkhart. Sheryl taught music classes through the Texas Conservatory of Church Music, and for the El Carmen Mexico Bible College. She played the piano for countless churches and organizations over her entire lifetime, including Wayside Bible Church in Crockett for over 30 years, Green Acres Baptist in Tyler, Houston County Choir, and Piney Woods Arts Association. She also led and directed Grace Notes Choir. Sheryl enjoyed going to see Billy Graham, loved to travel, and went on many mission trips to include Mexico and Israel. She and her husband attended many church seminars throughout their life together. She loved learning about the Lord. Sheryl served many roles in several community organizations: Tres Dias International, Vida Nueva, GRACE Homeschool, and San Pedro Cemetery. She also worked alongside her husband managing their business, Allen Piano Service. Sheryl was a wonderful mother of five now accomplished children and devoted wife of forty-four years to her husband, Chuck. She loved to sew, cook, and serve in the community. She was an accomplished concert pianist who used her gifts to serve others with a smile. Sheryl was talented, loving, caring, and had a heart for the Lord. Sheryl will be missed by all of those who knew her.
