Phyllis graduated in the Class of 1952 from Shippensburg High School. She then went on to study nursing and worked as a nurse for Chambersburg Hospital for three years. Phyllis married the love of her life, William Orris Hykes on October 8, 1955 at the First Church of God in Shippensburg. Soon after, she dedicated her time to raising her beautiful family. She was a member of Messiah United Methodist Church and volunteered as a Sunday school teacher. In her spare time, she enjoyed cooking, knitting, gardening and reading.
Phyllis is survived by her loving husband of 66 years, William Orris Hykes of Shippensburg, two daughters, Debra Heckman and her husband, Abe of Shippensburg and Kathy Hykes of Harrisburg, one sister, Vivian Ida Diller, one brother, Robert Edward Ocker and three grandchildren; Matthew William Heckman, Triton Header and Melissa Ann Heckman and her fiancé, Austin Kane.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Bernita Nancy Gilbert and brother, Wayne Harrison Ocker.
Professional services are entrusted to Dugan Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., Shippensburg. A Public Viewing will be held from 6:00 – 8:00 PM on Monday, May 16, 2022 at Dugan Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 51 Asper Drive, Shippensburg. A Private Graveside in Spring Hill Cemetery will be at the family's discretion.
