ALEXANDER - Trula Haney Aiken, age 91 of Alexander, NC slipped the surly bonds of earth to meet her Lord and Savior Thursday, April 28, 2022.
Trula was born May 7, 1930, in Buncombe County to the late Commodore Randolph and Elsie Woods Haney. She was a 1949 graduate of French Broad High School where she was the class valedictorian. She played basketball and softball for French Broad who won Buncombe County Championships.
After graduation, Trula worked for J.J. Newberry in Asheville before marrying the love of her life, Vascal Aiken in 1953 and moving to Michigan where she worked at General Public Loan as a bookkeeper. Vascal and Trula happily moved back to NC in 1958 and remained for the rest of her life.
Trula was a member of Alexander Baptist Church since 1947. She loved the Lord and loved her church and church family. She was a member of the Ladies Sunday School class, the treasurer of the Hospitality Committee and worked tirelessly for church events.
Trula was preceded in death by her loving husband of 64 years, Vascal Aiken, sisters, Annie Mae Parris and Kathleen Parris and brother, Donald Haney.
Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Roger and Renee Aiken of Alexander; grandsons, Tyler and wife Adelaide of Asheville, NC and Blake of Washington DC; great-granddaughters, Finley Charlotte and Rosemary Lee of Asheville; sister, Virginia Haney Stevens and brother, Charles Haney, both of Asheville, NC.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of the WNC Baptist Home for their wonderful care of Trula. We would also like to thank Brenda Plumley, Jeanie Danner, Karissa Rogers and Joy Thompson for their kind, loving care of Trula while she was at home.
