Kelsey Ann Sorrell, 18, was always the life of the party
She died after her car skidded on ice

ERLANGER - Known as the life of the party, Kelsey Ann Sorrell of Erlanger loved life.

"She always had a smile on her face. When she would smile, everyone would smile," said her father, Steve Sorrell of Erlanger.

On Wednesday, at approximately 4 p.m., Kelsey Ann Sorrell was killed while entering northbound Interstate 75 from U.S. 42 in her 2001 Toyota Camry. She hit a patch of ice and swerved into traffic.

She was struck on the driver's side and pronounced dead at the scene by the Boone County Coroner's Office. She was 18.

"She loved kids," her high school friend Jamie Board of Fort Wright said when asked about Ms. Sorrell's hobbies.

Her father recalled helping to get her a job Saturday mornings working the concession stand at Covington Catholic's grade school basketball league.

"She was there since she was little, a little runt running around the gym, always with me," he said.

She frequently baby-sat her younger cousins and was always around to help.

"She would do anything for anyone," Board said.

A freshman with an undecided major at the University of Kentucky, she was scheduled to leave for Lexington on Tuesday. She had been home celebrating Christmas break.

In her spare time, she liked to hang out with her friends mostly, and loved to shop.

She had a passion for music and dancing and was "an expert in text messaging," according to her father.

"She could text faster than I could talk," he said.

Board agreed, laughing while she described Ms. Sorrell's social habits.

"She had some crazy dance moves," she said. "She would hug everyone when we got to a party, because they all knew her."

Nicknamed "Kelrel" by the closest of her friends, she enjoyed going on ski trips to Perfect North Slopes in Lawrenceburg, Ind., and ate at a Panera Bread restaurant almost every day.

"She always had people around," Board said.

Ms. Sorrell attended St. Henry grade school, Erlanger, and was later active at Notre Dame Academy, Park Hills, where she graduated in 2007. She was on student council, played freshman basketball and at one time or another participated on diving, volleyball and soccer teams.

Other than her father, she is survived by her mother, Terri Sorrell; brothers, Tyler and Trevor Sorrell; and grandparents, Tom and Ruth Sorrell of Park Hills, and Chester Dreyer of Milford, Ohio.

Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Tuesday at St. Agnes Church, Fort Wright, with services following.

Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.
