David Mace, age 80, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 19, 2022. He was a lifelong resident of Madison County, residing in the Petersburg Community for 56 years. He is predeceased by his parents Joe and Mae Shook Mace.

He is survived by his sister, Barbara M. Robinson of Marshall; son, Master Sergeant USAF (Ret) Tim Mace (Dolores) of Oklahoma City, OK,; daughter, Lynn Mace of Taylors, SC; granddaughters, Ashlee Goforth of Greenville SC, Lisa Mace Turner (Steven) and Kaila Mace both of Oklahoma City, OK; three great grandchildren, and many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.

He retired from Mars Hill College with 31 years of service. He was also a rock mason, (a skill he learned from his dad). His rock masonry work is prevalent on the campus of Mars Hill University; including Broyhill Chapel, as well as numerous homes in the area. He enjoyed fishing and meeting up with his buddies at the local country store for a game of pool or checkers. He was a skilled driver and enjoyed the challenge of driving in snowy, winter weather. Walking in the woods to search for ginseng and ramps was one of his favorite past times. He was also a weaver of impromptu tall tales for his grandchildren. The tall tales always had abrupt and nonsensical endings not unnoticed by his grandchildren, who would not fail to admonish him by saying "That is not right Paw! Tell it again!"

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, March 23, 2022 at Robbie Capps Memorial Chapel of Blue Ridge Funeral Service. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
