Asheville - Mary Katherine Edmonds Edwards, 82, of 440 Onteora Blvd., went to be with our Lord on Thursday, Dec. 22, 2005, at Mountain Area Hospice.
Mrs. Edwards was born July 22, 1923, in Buncombe County. She was a loving caregiver to her husband, father and mother. Mary was a dear loving woman and a friend to many. She loved the Lord and attending church, she was a member of Mt. Sheba Baptist Church in Weaverville. She was the daughter of the late Rev. Arthur and Clara Belle Whitaker Edmonds and wife of the late Rev. Ransom Edwards. Also preceding her in death were three brothers, John B., Dallas and Jimmy Edmonds and sister, Rebecca Helen Edmonds.
Surviving are her brother, Ray Edmonds and wife, Wilma, of Leicester; three step children, Chuck Edwards and wife, Colleen, Raymond Edwards and wife, Gwen, all of Asheville and Helen Edwards Lytle and husband, Wayne, of Fairview; and several step grandchildren. She was a very "special aunt" to a number of nieces and nephews whom she dearly loved and cared for like a mother.
The funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Mt. Sheba Baptist Church with the Revs. Steve Rhinehart, Harold Cable and Jonathan Sluder officiating. Burial was in Mt. Sheba Baptist Church Cemetery.
