On Nov 25, 1848 George Washington Dalton married Charlotte "Lottie" Hedrick and they resided in Thornhill, Tennessee.

Lottie had to become a strong survivor when George enlisted as PVT in the Confederate Army for Andrew Jackson Jr. and George was captured by the Union Army and left her alone and without any scholarly education to bravely provide for their children in the mountains of East Tennessee.
