HOWARD MARS
MARSHALL - Howard Mars, 81, of 3660 Quill Ammons Hollow, passed away Monday, October 6, 2008, at his residence aster an extended illness. He was a native of Madison County and the son of the late Birdie Mars Moore, and is also preceded in death by a daughter, Shirley M. Mace; son, Bobby Dean Mars; and several brothers and sisters. Howard was a member of Grapevine Missionary Baptist Church and was retired from Burlington Industries.
Surviving is his wife, Altha Bowens Mars; daughters, Myrtle Mars, Elaine Wyatt, Joann Hensley (Dennis), Howardette Bullman, Katherine Bollman (Gene) and Wilma Lamb (Billy); son Eddie Bowens (Gail); 25 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and special grandson, Scotty Mars; special nieces and nephew, Joyce Angel, Linda Worley, Judy Condley and Leslie Bowens.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Blue Ridge Funeral Service, Mars Hill. The Revs Tim Denton, Jimmy Buckner and Kenneth Parker will officiate. burial will follow on the Ingles Cemetery. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
