Dorris was the only child of Ira Lewis Odom (1898-1957) and Nita Hamilton Odom (1899-1971). On February 20, 1943, she married William Edgar Bagley, an Army Air Corps pilot. The couple had 4 children, but the marriage ended in divorce. She later remarried Courtney Wightman of Albany, Georgia. Dorris was the director of the Kinchafoonee Regional Library in Dawson, Georgia and a member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, the Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Colonial Dames of the 17th Century.
