Swedish matron. According to reasonably reliable sources she was one of the extramarital daughters of King Oscar II of Sweden and Norway. Her mother was Paulina Matilda Esping (1858-1878) from Gärdesrum who during the latter part of her pregnancy stayed in the rectory of the exclusive Hedvig Eleonora Parish of Stockholm and died a few days after she was born. She grew up in foster care and eventually married Lars Smitz. They had one daughter.
