Frances Theresa Meyers passed away on January 16, 2021 from complications of Covid-19. She was 88. Frances was born in Camden, New Jersey to Ruben and Florence Gray on August 19, 1932. During WWII, with her father serving in the Marine Corps overseas, Frances lived in La Mesa, New Mexico, with her mother, younger sister and father's family. During this time, Frances frequented her grandfather's farm where she learned to pick cotton, for a penny a pound, pecans and raise chickens. She has said to have experienced some of her happiest moments during this time. She was introduced to the piano and received lessons from her aunt. Thus, started her lifelong love and passion for classical music. After graduating from Gadsden High School, Frances attended New Mexico State University. Unfortunately, before graduating, the family moved to Barstow California because of her father's military service. While working as a civil service clerk, Frances was introduced to the love of her life Lt. John F. Meyers, USMC and on March 6, 1954 they were wed. Frequent moves were common with a husband serving in the military. While settled in Oceanside and San Diego California, their children were born. From there the family continued their moves and called North Carolina and New Mexico home. With each move Frances made the home a place of warmth, love, music, and incredibly great meals. A final move back to Oceanside, allowed her to become involved in many community and church activities; including leadership to create Libby Lake Park, PTA secretary, and Mission San Luis Rey CCD teacher. Her passion for music led her to take lessons and learn to play the church organ. As her natural talent and skill developed, she was called upon to accept the position of church organist for Mission San Luis Rey. For over 10 years she played the organ for church services, weddings, funerals, and choral events. After gaining service playing certification from the American Guild of Organists, Frances held several other church organist positions including at King of King Lutheran and St. Michael's Episcopal churches. Frances was a life-long member of the American Guild of Organists and leader of the Palomar chapter. She loved hosting social events at her house and easily made countless friends. Frances was an avid reader throughout her life. Most of all, she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. In addition to her parents, Frances is preceded in death by her son Patrick. Her son Joseph, died of Covid a week after her.
