Mrs. Ruby Inez Simmons, age 83, passed away at her home on January 11, 2014, surrounded by her family. She worked with Nationwide Insurance and Thompson Insurance Agency for more than 17 years. She loved gardening, preserving food, travelling and her family. She was preceded in death by father and mother, John Thomas Pittman and Ruby Newsom Worrell; her step-father, Lawrence Worrell; and a sister, Elma Rowe. Inez is survived by her husband of 63 years, Douglas Omerl Simmons; one sister, Vernice Taylor of Tarboro; and numerous other family members. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Monday, January 13, 2014, at 3:00 PM at the chapel of Johnson Funerals and Cremations, 661 English Road, Rocky Mount. Burial will follow at Rocky Mount Memorial Park.
