Jane died after a hug snow blizzard caused several cottages to be engulfed in snow. Eight people were killed and seven rescued - two of which were Jane's daughter's FANNY aged two years old and young baby JANE.

This plaque is placed here by subscription to record an awful instance of the uncertainty of human life.

On the morning of the 27th December 1836 the poorhouse of this parish was destroyed by a mass of snow falling from above and the following eight individuals were buried beneath the ruins. Their remains are interred on the North side of the Church.
