Bubba Tankersley
William Travis "Bubba" Tankersley, 74, of the Macedonia community near Kenton died March 26, 2005, at his home after a long battle with cancer.
Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Macedonia Baptist Church, with the Revs. Billy Hicks and James Barber officiating. Burial will follow in Macedonia Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Chuck Flowers, Tommy Jumper, Bobby Primrose, Bryant Driver, Aaron Whitworth, Harold Johnson, Pee Wee Wyrick and Andy Bowlin. Honorary pallbearers will be Gary Tankersley, Ricky Tankersley, Bill Ross, Bobby McNeely, Curtis Russom, Freddie Jordon, Harold Buchanan, George Spencer, James Terrell Wheatley, B.T. Yates and Gerald Schaeffer.
Friends may call at the church 5-8 this evening.
Roberts Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
The family requests that memorials be made to St. Thomas Hospital Cancer Foundation, 4220 Harding Road, Nashville, TN 37205.
He was born June 28, 1930, in Obion County, son of the late Will Mike and Opal (Warren) Tankersley. He had been married to the former Nancy Jones for 51 years.
He attended the former Macedonia School and graduated from the former Kenton High School. He was a self-employed builder and farmer for 45 years and was an active member of Macedonia Baptist Church for 62 years, serving as Sunday school teacher for several classes and as church treasurer and a member of the building and grounds committee.
He was an avid fisherman and hunter and enjoyed daily socializing with friends at a Kenton restaurant.
Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Michael Shawn and Pam Tankersley of Troy; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Teresa Gayle Tankersley of Kenton, Pamela René and Tommy Jumper of Paragould, Ark., and Syrena Kaye and Chuck Flowers of Jackson; five grandchildren, Ashley Tankersley and Tyler Tankersley, both of Troy, Isaac Jumper and Emma Jumper, both of Paragould, and Syrena Christine Flowers of Jackson; and his niece, two nephews and several great-nieces.
He was also preceded in death by his brother, Warren Mike "Flip" Tankersley.
