Dale John Svoboda entered peacefully into rest on December 15th, 2021. He was born July 14th, 1928, to Joseph and Anna Svoboda of St. Paul, Nebraska. He joined the Air Force in December 1949 after working the family farm until he was 21. He was stationed at Randolph Air Base in Texas, then Victorville, California, before eventually moving to Spokane in 1952. There, he met Leona Neiwert, who was to become his loving wife of 61 years. Together they raised three boys, Dale Jr., Greg, and Scott. He loved to be around friends and family; he also loved outdoor recreation, boating and golfing with friends. He was especially proud to be a boat owner – one of his childhood dreams – despite not having finished high school. He opened his own business, a full-service gas station, in 1967, on Spokane's South Hill. His many customers always respected his fairness, and most became good friends, hunting, bowling, and huckleberry picking with them. He was a member of Hamblin Park Presbyterian Church for many years and had been a member of the Spokane Yacht Club for 25 years, culminating in serving as Commodore. In retirement, he wintered yearly in Yuma, Arizona for 19 years with his wife, making many new friends and golfing on every course he could get to. He traveled the world with his wife and friends, visiting much of Europe, Mexico, China, Panama, Jamaica, The Bahamas, Puerto Rico, and Alaska. The third child of of six, he is preceded in death by his wife; and survived by his sons, all of Spokane; his brother, Milroy Svoboda, of Spokane; and sister Betty Galusha of Dixon, California. He also has five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Services will be held at Heritage Funeral Home, 508 N. Government Way, Spokane, WA on Monday, Jan 11th at 1:00 PM.
