Athena Jean Barnett
Athena Jean Duke Barnett, 57, passed away on Monday, November 22, 2021 at her home surrounded by her family. Born on April 14, 1964 in West Point, she was a daughter to Athen E., Jr. and Rotha Nell Phelps Duke. She attended West Point High School later graduating from Amory High School and she was married to Jesse Barnett on November 25, 2006. She loved her 3 dogs, Daisy, Duke, and Prissy. A homemaker, she was truly devoted to her husband and children. She loved to sew and could make anything with a needle and thread, but she especially loved to make quilts for all 14 of her grandchildren. She loved people especially being around friends at the dirt track which has been a huge part of her life for the last 15 years and she was Jesse's biggest fan when he raced. But above all, her family was her greatest joy. Facing the hardest battle of her life, she was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in August but remained determined and optimistic and never complained, embracing each day as a special gift and with a special thanks to her special friend, Brooke Cockrell.

Funeral services will be on Friday, November 26, 2021 at 1 p.m. at Cleveland-Moffett Funeral Home in Amory with Bro. Robert Earl Fowlkes officiating. Burial will follow in the Camp Cemetery.

She is survived by her husband, Jesse Barnett of Amory; her mother, Rotha Nell Duke of Aberdeen; three daughters, Jessica Marie Buckingham of Atlanta, GA, Tina Renee King (Andy) of the Athens Community; and stepdaughter, Amber Nicole Cantrell (Zack) of Hackelburg, AL; two sisters, Dianne Langwith (Robert) of Willisville, IL and Amy Yarbrough (Billy Ray) of Aberdeen; 14 grandchildren; her mother and father-in-law, Junior and Lavon Barnett of the Athens Community; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her father.

Pallbearers will be Phillip Hall, Matt Graham, Brad Allred, Donnie Ashford, Jay Dickens, and Ronnie Stuckey.

Visitation will be on Friday from 11 until service time at the funeral home.
