Willa Francis Stokes was the oldest child born to the late Rebecca and John Stokes on November 5, 1946 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She was preceded in death by her brother Malcolm.

On Saturday, November 21, 2020, our Almighty God, in His infinite wisdom sent His angel to personally escort our beloved Willa Stokes home to rest

She was educated in the Philadelphia Archdiocese School System and graduated from St. Maria Goretti High School in 1964. She later earned her Bachelor of Science in Business from LaSalle University.

Willa was raised in the Catholic faith and became a member of Our Lady of Hope Catholic Parish. There she served as an usher, Sunday School teacher, and faithfully attended morning mass daily as well as Saturday evening services. She joyfully participated in all fundraisers.

She worked at Bell Telephone where she started as an operator and was promoted to management. There she remained until retirement. She also taught GED classes in her community.

During her young adult years, she became a seamstress creating beautiful designs of clothing, drapery and recently face masks for her community. She visited the stores in her community in which she donated face masks to their employees. She developed a love for skiing, became an amateur ski instructor and blazed the slopes with the Blazers Ski Club. She enjoyed gardening with her mother. She also loved caring for Stryker her Norwegian guard dog and line dancing.

Willa leaves a host of family including many cousins: Randle and Margie Laws, Marcus Laws, Mironda Laws, Jordan Laws, Nicole Reynolds, and Michelle Scott. She also leaves her godson Kenyatta Royster.

Willa also leaves a host of friends that love her dearly: Regina Grant, Carolyn Nadeem, Juanita Perkins, Sister Mary Catherine, Fr. Efren Esmilla, Donna Pinkney, Michele Lewis, and many more. She will surely be missed as she left wonderful memories full of laughter, strength, and resilience.
